Title 22 › Chapter 38— DEPARTMENT OF STATE › § 2724
The Secretary of State can charge a fee to people, businesses, or organizations (not U.S. government agencies) for commercial services given at U.S. posts abroad. The fee must cover the actual or estimated cost and may only be used where the Department of Commerce does not provide and charge for the same services. Money collected must be put into the Department of State’s funds to recover those costs and remains available for obligation through September 30 of the fiscal year following the fiscal year in which the funds were deposited.
