Congress must OK by law before the United States can do certain things with the Bank. Without that approval, the President or any U.S. official or agency cannot buy more stock in the Bank, agree to changes that increase U.S. obligations or change the Bank’s purpose, or lend or give other funding to the Bank. A U.S. agency created by Congress and allowed to fund international organizations may provide up to $1,000,000 in any one year to the Bank for technical assistance.
