Title 22 › Chapter 8— FOREIGN SERVICE BUILDINGS › § 301
Leases under 10 years that cost more than $100,000 a year for Foreign Service use abroad must be approved by the Secretary of State. The Secretary may only give that approval power to the Deputy Under Secretary of State for Administration or the Director of the Office of Foreign Buildings, and must keep Congress informed. If money is available, the Secretary or a designee may make advance payments for long-term leases or lease-purchase agreements when those payments serve the U.S. Government’s interest in carrying out this chapter.
