§3305 The American Institute in Taiwan

Summary

All U.S. government programs, transactions, and other relations involving Taiwan must be done by or through the American Institute in Taiwan, a nonprofit in the District of Columbia, or by a similar nongovernmental organization the President picks. They must be carried out in the way and to the extent the President directs. Any agreement about Taiwan that the United States is allowed or required to make, carry out, or enforce must also go through the Institute as the President directs. If any law, rule, or local ordinance in D.C., a State, or a local area where the Institute is set up or does business gets in the way of the Institute doing its job, that law is overridden.
