Title 22 › Chapter 48— TAIWAN RELATIONS › § 3314
For this chapter, "laws of the United States" means any law, rule, order, or court decision made by the U.S. government or by its states, territories, or local governments. "Taiwan" means the islands of Taiwan and the Pescadores, the people who live there, businesses and other groups set up under the laws used on those islands, and the governing authorities the United States recognized as the Republic of China before January 1, 1979, plus any successor governments and their parts like agencies or subdivisions.
