Title 22 › Chapter 48A— TAIWAN ENHANCED RESILIENCE › Subchapter I— IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ENHANCED DEFENSE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND TAIWAN › § 3353
The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense must set up or expand a training program with Taiwan to help U.S. and Taiwan forces work together better, build stronger ties and understanding between their militaries, improve Taiwan’s defenses, and train future Taiwanese military leaders while supporting professional military education, civilian control of the military, and respect for human rights. The program must focus on realistic training like joint contingency tabletop exercises, war games, full-scale exercises, and an enduring rotational United States military presence that helps Taiwan keep forces ready and use U.S. defense equipment and services transferred to Taiwan. The Secretary of State may provide training through the International Military Education and Training program under chapter 5 of part II of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2347 et seq.).
