Title 22 › Chapter 52— FOREIGN SERVICE › Subchapter IV— COMPENSATION › § 3972
Officials may pay special differentials (extra pay) to Foreign Service officers who must do a lot more work than usual, on top of their regular pay. For USAID Foreign Service criminal investigators, the USAID Inspector General must limit those extra payments so that the total of basic pay plus the extra pay each bi‑weekly pay period does not exceed the bi‑weekly premium‑pay limit that applies to other federal criminal investigators. This limit is retroactive to January 1, 2013. These rules do not stop Foreign Service officers from getting compensatory time off.
