Title 22 › Chapter 53B— FOREIGN RELATIONS OF THE UNITED STATES HISTORICAL SERIES › § 4351
The Department of State must keep publishing the Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) series as a full, accurate record of major U.S. foreign-policy decisions and important diplomatic actions. Each volume must include the facts that shaped decisions and documents showing supporting or opposing views. Editors must be objective and must not alter records. If something is deleted, the published text must say so. They cannot omit facts that mattered to a decision or hide policy mistakes. The Secretary of State must make sure each volume is published no more than 30 years after the events.
