§7636 Study on Illegal Diversions of Prescription Drugs

Summary

Within 180 days after May 27, 2003, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, working with other government agencies, must send a report to Congress. The report must give a detailed review of evidence that prescription drugs sent or sold for humanitarian aid have been illegally redirected into the United States and an estimate of how much this has happened; offer ways to strengthen U.S. administrative and enforcement powers to detect, track, and stop such redirection; and provide recommendations, guidelines, and technical help for developing countries to set up programs that reduce the risk of these humanitarian drugs being diverted into the United States.
