Title 22 › Chapter 87— UNITED STATES AND INDIA NUCLEAR COOPERATION › § 8007
The Secretary of Energy, through the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration, may create a joint U.S.-India science program to advance nuclear nonproliferation goals, with a special focus on safeguards and research and development. The program must be planned with the Secretaries of State and Defense. The Secretary must make an agreement with the National Academies so experts send yearly recommendations on research priorities and yearly assessments of whether the program is meeting its goals. Those reports must be made public. All U.S. work under the program must follow the United States’ obligations under the Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty. Congress authorized whatever money is needed to run the program for each of fiscal years 2007 through 2011.
