Title 22 › Chapter 104— VENEZUELA ASSISTANCE › Subchapter I— SUPPORT FOR THE INTERIM PRESIDENT OF VENEZUELA AND RECOGNITION OF THE VENEZUELAN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY › § 9701
Says Venezuela’s May 20, 2018 election was fraudulent and did not meet international standards, so Nicolás Maduro’s term ended on January 10, 2019. The National Assembly voted on January 15, 2019 to end his authority, and on January 23, 2019 the Assembly’s president was sworn in as Interim President. Supports the U.S. and more than 50 other governments, the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the European Parliament in recognizing Juan Guaidó as Interim President. Urges him to move quickly to hold a free, fair presidential election and calls for the OAS, with help from the U.S. and partner governments, to give diplomatic, technical, and financial support for a new election.
