Title 23 › Chapter 3— GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 306
The Secretary must allow photogrammetry and private companies to do mapping work whenever it is practical. The Secretary must give guidance to encourage States to use private surveying and mapping firms as much as possible, and must recommend appropriate State and private roles—like making standards, doing research and passing technology to the private sector, giving technical support and coordinating activities, and finding ways to increase private-sector use. The Secretary must check every year whether each State follows that guidance.
