The Secretary of the Interior may choose a tribal member who can manage their own affairs and give them their share of tribal or trust money held by the U.S. Treasury. The money is put in that person’s Treasury account and they can use it, but they must apply first and enough will be held back to pay any claims already pending in the United States Court of Federal Claims or in federal agencies.
