Gives simple, official meanings for key words used in this chapter. “Secretary” means the Secretary of the Interior; “Indian” means a person who is a member of a federally recognized tribe or a “Native” as defined in the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act; “Tribe” means a federally recognized Indian tribe, band, group, pueblo, community, or Alaska Native village/group eligible for Bureau of Indian Affairs services; “Reservation” covers reservations, public domain Indian allotments, former Oklahoma reservations, and land held by Alaskan Native corporations under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act; “Economic enterprise” means a for‑profit business that is at least 51% Indian‑owned as defined by the Secretary; “Organization” means the tribe’s governing body or an entity it sets up or recognizes; “Other organizations” means non‑Indian individuals or business entities; “Surety” and “Surety Bond” have the meanings given in 15 U.S.C. 694a.
