Title 25 › CHAPTER 18 — INDIAN HEALTH CARE › SUBCHAPTER I — INDIAN HEALTH PROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL › § 1616e–1
The Secretary, through the Service, can give grants to public or private nursing schools so they can set up, run, and manage clinics that meet the health needs of Indians and provide primary care to Indians who live on or within 50 miles of Indian country (as defined in 18 U.S.C. 1151). Grants may pay to create clinics run by faculty and students, fund clinical training, program development, faculty improvement, and student scholarships that help the clinics, and support other activities the Secretary approves. The Secretary decides grant amounts and any rules for them. Clinics must give nursing students a structured clinical experience like physician residency programs. The Secretary must write any needed regulations. For each fiscal year 1993 through 2000, no more than $5,000,000 from amounts appropriated to carry out this subchapter may be used for these grants.
