The Secretary can make leases with Indian tribes for periods not longer than twenty years. The Secretary can also rebuild or renovate property leased from a tribe if the tribe agrees. The Secretary can sign leases, contracts, or other legal agreements with tribes or tribal groups that hold one of three kinds of interests: title — full ownership; a leasehold interest — the right to use land under a lease; or a beneficial interest — the United States holds legal title in trust for the tribe.
