Title 25 › Chapter 5— PROTECTION OF INDIANS › § 178
When a claim, entry, or filing under federal public-land laws is contested and an Indian is a party, the fees the Indian must pay are one-half of the normal fees. The Commissioner of Indian Affairs will pay that half, but only with the Secretary of the Interior’s approval and after the proper land officers send a bill through the Secretary or someone the Secretary names.
