Title 25 › Chapter 9— ALLOTMENT OF INDIAN LANDS › § 2
Congress will help settle land claims tied to the White Earth Indian Reservation in Minnesota. Claims made for Indian allottees, their heirs, and the White Earth Band of Chippewa Indians involve large amounts of land and have led to many lawsuits. Those suits are causing hardship, uncertainty, big costs, and harm to both tribal and non‑tribal communities. The White Earth Band, the State of Minnesota, local governments, and others have tried to reach a deal, and federal help can make a fair, permanent settlement possible. Past U.S. laws added to the uncertainty, and resolving these claims serves the long‑term interests of everyone.
