§2217 Reports to Congress

Summary

Before the program’s current authority ends, the Secretary must talk with Indian tribes and other interested people and send a report to the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the House Committee on Resources. The report must say how many fractional interests in trust or restricted lands were acquired and how the drop in those fractional interests affected the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ financial and land record systems. Those reports must also say whether the program to acquire fractional interests in trust or restricted lands should be extended and whether it should be changed to make resources available to Indian tribes and individual Indian landowners.
