Title 25 › Chapter 7— EDUCATION OF INDIANS › § 272
The President must appoint, with the Senate’s approval, a Superintendent of Indian Schools who has experience managing, training, and educating children. That person must visit and inspect schools paid for in whole or in part by the U.S. Treasury and report to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs any defects in system, administration, or the means for advancing pupils toward civilization and self‑support, and recommend needed changes. The Superintendent must also carry out other duties the Secretary of the Interior assigns.
