Title 25 › Chapter 30— INDIAN LAW ENFORCEMENT REFORM › § 2806
The Secretary can investigate federal crimes in Indian country if the Secretary and the Attorney General agree. Bureau staff must work with whichever law enforcement agency has the main role in an investigation. Any law enforcement powers the Secretary gave before August 18, 1990 stay in effect. This law adds authority for the Secretary but does not change the civil, criminal, or law‑enforcement powers of the United States, Indian tribes, States, or local governments and their courts or agencies, except for the authority given here to the Secretary.
