Title 25 › Chapter 7— EDUCATION OF INDIANS › § 286
An Indian child cannot be sent from a reservation to a school outside the State or Territory unless a living father or mother freely agrees, or if neither parent is alive, the child's next of kin agrees. The consent must be given in front of the reservation agent, who must send a certificate to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs before the child is removed, and no Indian agent or other government worker may try to force consent by withholding rations or using other improper means.
