Title 25 › Chapter 31— NATIVE AMERICAN LANGUAGES › § 2905
The President must tell leaders of federal departments and agencies to review their policies and procedures with Indian tribes, traditional leaders, and educators. They must find and make changes so their work follows this law. When possible, they should pick policies that most support the law unless a specific federal statute clearly says otherwise. They must also review the laws they run and tell the President what changes are needed. By no later than 1 year after October 30, 1990, the President had to send Congress a report with recommended law changes. Not later than 1 year after January 5, 2023, the President must require the agency reviews and send Congress a report showing the results. That report must include recommendations from the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and the Secretary of Education, after talking with tribes, traditional leaders, and Native American language communities, about law changes needed to follow this law, improve federal coordination for language revitalization, and reduce overlap, waste, and barriers to federal programs that support Native American languages.
