If money is available, the Attorney General, working with the Office of Tribal Justice, must give grants to nonprofit groups (501(c)(3)) that provide legal help to Indian tribes, tribal members, or tribal courts under Federal poverty guidelines, if they apply in the way the Attorney General requires. Grants can pay for defense lawyers in tribal criminal cases, prosecution and court services, and other uses allowed by this chapter, including adult criminal cases, juvenile delinquency cases, and guardian‑ad‑litem appointments tied to those cases.
