Closure or close means stopping work at open dumps on Indian or Alaska Native land and fixing them so they meet federal rules or tribal/Alaska Native rules if those are tougher. Director means the head of the Indian Health Service. Indian land means reservation land, dependent Indian communities in the United States, and Indian allotments where Indian title still exists, including rights-of-way. Alaska Native land means land given under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act or under the Fur Seal Act of 1966. Indian tribal government means a recognized tribal governing body eligible for federal Indian programs. Alaska Native entity means ANCSA native corporations and villages or municipal owners of Alaska Native land. Open dump means a waste site that is not a sanitary landfill meeting the federal criteria and not a hazardous waste facility. Postclosure maintenance means work after closure to keep containment, monitor performance, or fix violations under subtitle D of the Solid Waste Disposal Act. Service means the Indian Health Service. Solid waste means whatever the Solid Waste Disposal Act defines as solid waste.
