Homesteads bought with an Indian's trust or restricted money are treated as federal property and are tax-free until Congress changes that. They can't be sold or mortgaged without the Secretary of the Interior's approval, and owners must, with that approval, choose either up to 160 acres or town property costing up to $5,000.
