Title 25 › CHAPTER 44 — NATIVE AMERICAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, TRADE PROMOTION, AND TOURISM › § 4305
The Secretary, through the Director, must run a Native American tourism program that helps tribes plan and carry out tourism demonstration projects. The program, working with the Under Secretary of Agriculture for Rural Development, helps projects that can bring more visitors and money to Indian lands and nearby areas. Projects can include making and sharing visitor guides and educational materials, building resources to help public and private tourism efforts, and teaming up with state or local governments for joint ventures. The Secretary may give grants or other support to tribes, tribal organizations, intertribal groups, or other tribal entities. The program must include projects for the Four Corners area (near the Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico border), the Great Northwest (as the Secretary decides), Oklahoma Indians in Oklahoma, the Great Plains (as the Secretary decides), and Alaska Natives in Alaska. Selected participants must get financial, technical, and administrative help for things like feasibility studies, market analyses, tourism and trade missions, and other suitable activities. Projects must also help develop and fund infrastructure, including Indian reservation roads, consistent with title 23.
