Title 25 › CHAPTER 44A — NATIVE AMERICAN TOURISM AND IMPROVING VISITOR EXPERIENCE › § 4353
The Secretary of Commerce and the Secretary of the Interior must update their management plans and tourism programs to include Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and Native Hawaiian organizations. Heads of other agencies that handle travel or tourism must do the same. The updated plans must cover ways to improve data and analysis, make federal websites and public records work together, create a better experience for visitors, support national tourism goals, find programs that help build and keep tourism infrastructure in Native communities, offer new visitor portals for parks and cultural sites that respect indigenous diversity, add bilingual signs with local Native languages and English, and improve transportation planning for tourism and trade. Each agency must talk with Indian tribes and Native American communities while making these plans. The Secretary of the Interior, with the Secretary of Commerce, must make an agreement with a group experienced in tribal tourism that respects native traditions. That group will act as a bridge between the agencies and tribes, find technical help needed, and help deliver that help. If funds are provided by Congress, agencies must use available money to cover the group’s administrative costs. The two Secretaries must work with the group to create measures of how well the effort is working. Within 1 year after September 23, 2016, and sometimes after, each Secretary must report to the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and the House Committee on Natural Resources about inclusion efforts, tourism plans, the group’s work, and how effective it has been.
