§5502 Designation of Tribes

Summary

Names 17 tribes whose land the United States will hold in trust for their benefit and gives an estimated number of acres for each tribe’s parcels. The list covers reservations and donated submarginal land projects and shows approximate acreages for each tribe. The Secretary of the Interior must publish the exact boundaries and descriptions of those lands in the Federal Register. The acreages shown are only estimates and do not change or limit the federal land grant set elsewhere in this law.

(b)The Secretary of the Interior shall cause to be published in the Federal Register the boundaries and descriptions of the lands conveyed by this chapter. The acreages set out in the preceding subsection are estimates and shall not be construed as expanding or limiting the grant of the United States as defined in section 5501 of this title.
