Defines key words used in the chapter. An applicable Bureau office is a Regional office, an Agency office, or a Land Titles and Records Office. The Bureau is the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Director is its Director. A first certified title status report verifies title on Indian land; a subsequent certified report identifies liens against residential, business, or land leases. Indian land and right-of-way document use the meanings in 25 CFR 162.003 and 169.2, respectively, as in effect on May 4, 2026. A land mortgage is a mortgage an individual Indian who owns trust land takes for home acquisition, home construction, home improvements, or economic development. A leasehold mortgage uses a lessee’s leasehold as security. A mortgage package is a proposed residential or business leasehold mortgage, land mortgage, or right-of-way document submitted under section 5902(a)(1). Relevant Federal agencies are the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
