The Director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts must make sure every federal district court has computer systems that can quickly find a case’s status. The Director must set what case details to record and create uniform rules for labeling court actions. Those rules must define what counts as a dismissal and how to measure how long a motion has been pending. Each district court must enter the required information into its system.
