The Board can hire and set duties for the Director and Deputy Director of the Federal Judicial Center. Those leaders serve as long as the Board wants. The Board can ask any federal department, agency, or independent body for information the Center needs, and those entities must help and give the information when asked by the Board chair or by the Director if the Board has allowed it, as allowed by law. The Board can also make and pay for contracts with government or private groups or people for research and other services without following section 6101(b) to (d) of title 41, and it can give that contracting power to the Director.
