§2633 Membership

Summary

Creates a Commission made up of 12 voting members and 4 nonvoting ex officio members. All appointments had to be completed within 60 days after February 5, 1993. One Senator is chosen by the Senate Majority Leader and one by the Senate Minority Leader. One Representative is chosen by the Speaker and one by the House Minority Leader. Eight more voting members are appointed two each by the Speaker, the Senate Majority Leader, the House Minority Leader, and the Senate Minority Leader; those eight must have experience in family, temporary disability, and labor-management issues and include employer representatives from large and small businesses. The Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Commerce, and the Administrator of the Small Business Administration serve as nonvoting ex officio members. Vacancies are filled the same way as the original appointments. Members elect a chair and vice chair. Eight members make a quorum, though fewer may hold hearings.
