Summary

Center directors must build and keep useful business and community connections, and use local boards, to help their Job Corps centers work better. They must reach out to employers nearby and farther away (working with other outreach programs when possible); to one-stop centers and local boards so they can give information, refer possible students, and help graduates find jobs; and to apprenticeship and youth programs, labor groups, employers and contractors tied to national training programs, and community nonprofits and workforce intermediaries. Directors must also connect with local residents, tell them about center projects and any rule or activity changes that affect the neighborhood, and plan events together. If a center is not yet open, these relationships must be set up at least 3 months before the first enrollee arrives.
