Title 29 › Chapter 12— DEPARTMENT OF LABOR › § 557a
The Department of Labor creates the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), led by an Assistant Secretary for Mine Safety and Health appointed by the President with Senate approval. The Secretary must, through that Assistant Secretary, appoint civil‑service staff, set their duties, and carry out the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 via MSHA.
