§796–1 Administration of the Independent Living Program

Summary

Creates an Independent Living Administration inside the Administration for Community Living at the Department of Health and Human Services. A Director chosen by the HHS Secretary must lead it, have substantial knowledge of independent living services, serve as the main official to run these programs, and report directly to the ACL Administrator. The Secretary must give the Administration enough resources to provide technical help, support, and oversight for the programs under this part, including designating at least 1 individual from the Office of General Counsel who knows about independent living services.
