Title 30 › Chapter 3A— LEASES AND PROSPECTING PERMITS › Subchapter I— GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 184a
States that received land from the United States may allow those lands to be developed under plans approved by the Secretary of the Interior. The State can make deals with people or companies holding federal or other leases or permits to better conserve oil and gas. The deals can set up joint development, decide how production and money are shared, and, if the State agrees, change state lease terms to match the deal. Making a deal does not give up or decide any U.S. rights or title.
