Title 30 › Chapter 31— MARINE MINERAL RESOURCES RESEARCH › § 1901
Defines key words used in the chapter. It gives short meanings so readers know what each word refers to. Contract means the same as “procurement contract” in 31 U.S.C. 6303. Cooperative agreement means the same as in 31 U.S.C. 6305. Marine mineral resource covers sand and aggregates, placers, phosphates, manganese nodules, cobalt crusts, metal sulfides, methane hydrate (for purposes of this section and sections 1902–1905 only), and other marine resources except oil and gas, fisheries, and marine mammals. Methane hydrate means methane in ice-like crystalline form found naturally in deep ocean and permafrost areas, and other natural gas hydrates found with those deposits. Secretary means the Secretary of the Interior.
