Title 30 › Chapter 32— METHANE HYDRATE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT › § 2001
Congress says the United States will need a lot more energy and should get it from many different sources like electricity, natural gas, and fuels for cars and trucks. A National Research Council report estimates U.S. gas-hydrate resources at about 200,000 trillion cubic feet, and another report says the U.S. may have over one-fourth of the world’s methane hydrate deposits. The Energy Information Administration predicts a natural gas shortfall around 2020, and the National Academy of Sciences says methane hydrate might help reduce that shortfall.
