Title 30 › Chapter 3— LANDS CONTAINING COAL, OIL, GAS, SALTS, ASPHALTIC MATERIALS, SODIUM, SULPHUR, AND BUILDING STONE › Subchapter I— COAL LAND ENTRIES IN GENERAL › § 71
Allows anyone over 21 who is a U.S. citizen or has declared intent to become one, or a group made up of such people, to apply at the local land office to claim vacant federal coal land that is not already claimed or set aside. An individual may claim up to 160 acres and a group up to 320 acres, in regular legal parcels. The price must be at least $10 per acre if the land is more than 15 miles from any completed railroad, or at least $20 per acre if it is within 15 miles.
