The Secretary can make rules that require employers to send reports about miners who may be getting or are getting benefits. The reports must include when payments start and stop and how much is paid. Those reports cannot be used as proof in legal cases about a miner’s death or total disability from pneumoconiosis. An employer who fails to file a required report can be fined up to $500 for each missed report.
