Title 30 › Chapter 22— MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH › Subchapter V— ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS › § 955
State laws about mine health and safety that existed on December 30, 1969, or that take effect later, keep their force unless they clash with a federal rule, order, or mandatory safety standard from this chapter. If a state rule conflicts with the federal rule, the federal rule controls. If a state law sets stricter mine health or safety standards than the federal rules, it is not treated as a conflict and remains in effect. If a state law covers a safety matter that the federal chapter or its orders do not address, that state law also stays in effect.
