Title 31 › Subtitle SUBTITLE III— FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT › Chapter 37— CLAIMS › Subchapter II— CLAIMS OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT › § 3720E
The head of a federal agency can, with the Treasury Secretary’s review, make public information about a person who owes overdue non-tax debt to help collect that debt. The Treasury Secretary must write rules, after talking with the OMB Director and other agency leaders. Those rules must focus public notices on people who can pay, stop anyone from being named who has not had a chance to check, dispute, or settle their debt under the law, and include steps to avoid naming the wrong person.
