§6403 Guidance Applying Data Standards for Grant Reporting

Summary

Within 3 years of this chapter becoming law, the Secretary and the Director must jointly issue guidance telling agencies to use the data standards created under section 6402(a) for all reports from people and groups that get Federal awards. The Director must also issue guidance to apply those same data standards to audit information reported under chapter 75. The guidance must, where reasonable, avoid disrupting current reporting or raising the reporting burden and should look for ways to use modern technology. The Director may allow exceptions for whole groups of awards, including awards to Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (25 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.), but must publish and send a list of those exceptions to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate and the Committee on Oversight and Reform of the House of Representatives. The Director must consider the consultations required under section 6402(d). The Director must update the guidance at least once every 10 years and follow the same development steps used for the original data standards as much as possible.
