Title 32 › CHAPTER 3 — PERSONNEL › § 322
An enlisted National Guard member must be discharged when they turn 64 or when their federal recognition is withdrawn. When a member is discharged, they have the right to a discharge certificate like the ones given to members of the Regular Army or Regular Air Force. In peacetime, a Guard member can also be discharged early before their enlistment ends, under rules set by the Secretary of the Army or the Secretary of the Air Force, depending on the branch.
