Title 33 › Chapter 33A— MARINE DEBRIS RESEARCH, PREVENTION, AND REDUCTION › Subchapter II— MARINE DEBRIS FOUNDATION › § 1968
Provides money to the Department of Commerce: $10,000,000 for each fiscal year 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, and $2,000,000 for fiscal year 2025. Those funds must go to the Foundation to match contributions (money, services, or property) made by private people, state and local governments, regional groups, Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations, or foreign governments. Federal funds given this way cannot be used for the Foundation’s administrative costs (like salaries, travel, or overhead), except the Secretary may allow federal money to pay salaries for the 18-month period starting December 18, 2020. The Foundation may also accept other federal funds under other laws to support marine debris work and use them for matching. Grants from the Foundation cannot pay for litigation or to try to influence legislation before Congress.
