Title 33 › Chapter 45— TSUNAMI WARNING AND EDUCATION › § 3206
The Administrator must help build a global tsunami forecast and warning system. Working with the Secretary of State and other agencies, the Administrator must give technical help, operational support, and training to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO), the World Meteorological Organization (UN), and other international groups to create regional tsunami warning networks. Through the National Weather Service, the Administrator may run an International Tsunami Information Center to help Pacific nations in the International Tsunami Warning System of the Pacific and other countries in a global system. The Center will track warning activities, help countries set up national warning systems and share technology information, keep and share scientific and educational materials, and publish reports. The National Weather Service must prioritize helping countries map vulnerable coasts and flooding, get real-time detection gear, and build communication and warning networks. It may support technology transfer and may consider a country’s data-sharing policies, aiming to encourage full and open data exchange.
