§426o–2 Great Lakes Navigation and Protection

Summary

Using available funds, the Secretary must speed up operation and maintenance work, including dredging, on navigation features of the Great Lakes and Connecting Channels so commercial ships can use the waterways at the project depths. Using available funds, the Director of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), working with the Secretary, the EPA Administrator, the Coast Guard Commandant, and the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, must run an emergency pilot project to control and prevent further spread of viral hemorrhagic septicemia in those waters. Great Lakes and Connecting Channels: Lakes Superior, Huron, Michigan, Erie, and Ontario; the waters that link them used for commercial navigation; federal navigation features in those waters; and parts of the Saint Lawrence River the federal government operates for navigation.
