The Secretary must promptly tell the governor the results of a dam inspection and must immediately report any hazardous conditions. If the owner asks, the Secretary, through the Chief of Engineers, may do detailed engineering studies to check the dam’s strength, and the owner must pay back the costs. On request, the Secretary must advise the governor about timely fixes.
