Title 33 › Chapter 15— FLOOD CONTROL › § 701f–3
Starting May 23, 1955, money set aside for flood prevention can be used in watersheds already approved under the Flood Control Act of December 22, 1944. The funds may pay for work to prevent erosion and damage from floodwater and sediment, like gully control, detention basins, and floodway structures. If the Army is responsible for an area, the Secretary may make agreements with the Army to do the work together. Where the Secretary could buy land rights for projects, the Secretary may instead reimburse local groups for their fair share of land costs, taking the national interest into account.
